Like most creative industries, the fashion industry has taken a huge hit during the coronavirus pandemic—and some of the biggest names in fashion are no exception. With a new year beginning and the end of the pandemic in sight, Vanity Fair is catching up with 12 fashion greats, as they recommend their go-to items for quarantine, and their hopes for the year to come.

“I am extremely privileged to have been able to retreat in nature through these past months, I do not take that gift lightly,” Mara Hoffman told Vanity Fair. “I have never spent this much time immersed in nature and I believe it has changed my life. I have felt both the relief of slowing down during this time as well as the grief.”

Hoffman founded her namesake brand in 2000—with a focus on color and celebrating women. In 2015 she committed herself and her brand to carrying out more sustainable and responsible practices, a push that has encouraged her customers and the industry to rethink their relationship with clothing. Of course, the past year has brought on a reconsideration of almost everything else, too. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Hoffman said, “Being with my family so intimately for so long has been its own medicine and I will forever hold this time with love and gratitude. I see 2021 as the sobering confrontation with all that 2020 has brought.”

With hope for 2021 to bring some clarity and thoughtful action, below are some of Mara’s favorite things that have brought light to a dark time.
