Following the massive success of its predecessor, the Hi-Beat 36000 80 Hours SLGH005 “White Birch,” the SLGH017 “Night Birch” is the latest addition to Grand Seiko’s Evolution 9 collection. While the new iteration features all of the same elements as its award-winning twin, it is designed with a new dimensional black dial paired with Grand Seiko’s proprietary High-Intensity Titanium alloy for the case and bracelet.
Adhering to Grand Seiko’s prestigious high watchmaking standards, the SLGH017 “Night Birch” is equipped with caliber 9SA5, a 10-beat movement boasting 80 hours of power reserve and a precision rate of +5 to -3 seconds a day that took nine years to develop.
In terms of design, the new model boasts a deep black and gray dial inspired by the birch forest at night when the moonlight illuminates the trees, ultimately creating a rich depth to the dial. The sleek titanium on the 40mm case and bracelet beautifully complements the dial; in fact, this is the first Birch model to be constructed out of Grand Seiko’s high-intensity titanium, which — impressively — does not require the need for any surface coatings. So, for those who originally grew fond of the SLGH005 “White Birch,” this new model satisfies a deep, dynamic, and darker craving.
