Jeep confirms micro urban 4×4 for 2022
Jeep boss, Jeff Hines, has confirmed more details about the company’s small, urban-SUV. This city-oriented Jeep will be here by 2022 and, according to Hines, “will be the best off-road in the class.”
This entry-level Jeep will sit below the Renegade and will take on the likes of the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke and Seat Arona, but is likely to be slightly more expensive. “There’s clear space in that class for us,” says Hines.
“Clearly, it’s not going to be as good an off-roader as something like Wrangler, but we will offer four-wheel drive even if it won’t be for everyone.”
The baby Jeep will also have electric engine options. It was confirmed earlier this year that Jeep will be expanding its range and introducing electric powertrains – a new plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler will be one of the first electric models in the American brand’s range when it arrives in 2019, although Hines wouldn’t be drawn on the details of that engine. All Jeeps will have either full or partially electric drivetrain options by 2022, with a pure EV also very likely to be in showrooms by then.
